Vijay Melbourne, Australia 17th January 2020

Dear members of the Pancratius family Our heartfelt condolences on the passing of our beloved classmate Nihal. He had a passion for music and relished every moment he had the opportunity to perform and bring happiness to those around- we will certainly miss him whenever we gather again We met Nihal in Melbourne during his last visit to Australia and had a sing-along to the accompaniment of musical instruments he had brought all the way from UK rekindling such fond memories of our school days I recall writing the lyrics of the Tamil version of Anton Jones’ hit song “Mini Gavuma” (Mini Skirt) especially for a performance for the girls at Holy Family Convent, Jaffna and sung by us during an event at HFC in 1970 to a hall packed to capacity with Nuns, Teachers & Girls, and accompanied on the guitar by none other than the curly haired heartthrob & favourite of the girls, Ferdi. Nihal took this song to the next level and made it famous over many decades along with scores of many other songs We can all be thankful that we had Nihal in our lives and continue to remember him as a wonderful person Although it is difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you, his family in the days ahead Goodbye my dear friend, May your soul Rest in Peace singing with the angels in heaven as you did with your music and the joy you gave us during your time with us
